The Mozambique Institutional Diagnostic (MID) study was launched on 12 June in Maputo. The Launch Workshop brought together key people from policymakers to representatives of the private sector, civil society, legislative and judicial powers and religious organizations to discuss and identify possible institutional challenges and bottlenecks that hamper economic development in Mozambique.

The MID study is integrated in a research initiative called Economic Development & Institutions (EDI) and it officially started in February 2019 under a contract between Oxford Policy Management (OPM) and the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) of the University of Copenhagen. It is implemented in coordination with the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique Programme activities supported by DERG and UNU-WIDER in Mozambique.

The event was opened by Prof. Finn Tarp, Coordinator of the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique Programme in DERG and UNU-WIDER Non-Resident Senior Research Fellow, followed by the presentation by Prof. François Bourguignon, Emeritus Chair at the Paris School of Economics and EDI Research Director, and a panel discussion featuring Magid Osman, Laura Torvinen, Jorge Ferrão and Zélia Menete.
